Turkish composer and conductor Aytuğ Ülgen carries out his creative work across opera, ballet, musical theatre, symphonic music, and film scoring. During his opera and symphony conducting studies at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory with the Russian State Artists Prof. Leonid Nikolaev and Prof. Vladimir Ponkin, he pursued orchestration, analysis, and score reading with the composer Prof. Yuri Butsko, a Russian State Artist; it is within this Russian tradition that his orchestral thinking and rhetorical sense of the stage took shape. Drawing on his experience as an active conductor and his background as a musicologist, Ülgen is recognized for dramaturgically driven works centered on large-scale dramatic structures, orchestral colors across a broad palette, and the relationship between music and narrative. With a wide repertoire ranging from the Baroque era to the present day and a command of diverse musical styles, he brings a rich historical grounding into dialogue with a contemporary stage sensibility; his works and arrangements have been performed across four continents in concert halls, opera houses, and theatres, as well as in numerous film, television, and recording projects.

Ülgen's work encompasses not only the creation of new music but also the reconstruction, development, and revitalization of existing repertoire. Among his completed works is the opera Barsisa – First Assembly of the Seven Sessions, while his current projects include the ballet Frankenstein, the solo chamber opera Beşir Fuad – A Scientific Operation, the musical Crónicas del Ángel Gris, and the Carbajal Concerto for diatonic harmonica and orchestra. In addition, he has composed hundreds of chamber works, symphonic arrangements, children's songs, and scores for film and television, while creating large-scale stage productions, special projects, and original works for national and international institutions. He continues to collaborate regularly with orchestras, stage companies, soloists, and independent productions on new artistic ventures.

Widely regarded as one of Türkiye's leading specialists in orchestration, score restoration, and the adaptation of opera, ballet, and musical theatre repertoire for contemporary performance, Ülgen has devoted a significant part of his career to bringing important works back to the stage. His orchestration, restoration, and adaptation projects include the ballet The Great Gatsby, created from the music of George Gershwin; Turhan Yükseler's Cyrano de Bergerac ballet; Cemal Reşit Rey's Lüküs Hayat and Deli Dolu; Jerry Bock's Fiddler on the Roof; Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring; and Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate. Through these projects, numerous works have returned to the stage in new productions and reached contemporary audiences. As a composer, orchestrator, and creative consultant, Ülgen is regularly invited to participate in large-scale productions, new artistic initiatives, and international collaborations, continuing to work at the intersection of dramatic storytelling and symphonic music.

Alongside his musical career, he holds an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL).
